It is with great excitement that we’ve recently announced that we’re bringing CEO Sleepout to Milton Keynes for the very first time

CEO Sleepout is inviting business leaders from across Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire to give up their time and one night of comfort to literally sleep outside, raise funds, raise awareness and help others not as fortunate to help make Milton Keynes a fairer place to live and work. The event happens at Stadium MK on 7th November.

Each participant will be asking all their contacts and colleagues, friends and family to help them raise a target of £1000. This is so that we can make a significant difference to the lives of others.

The funds raised will benefit three amazing charities: The YMCA in MK which is building accommodation for the City’s young people who have experienced homelessness or who are at risk, the MK Dons Sport and Education Trust (SET) who help young people from deprived backgrounds re-engage in education through the power of sport, and CEO Sleepout UK charity.

CEO Sleepout is a national movement, with over 3000 participants and over £2M raised to date from events held everywhere from Northumberland to Portsmouth tackle homelessness and poverty in the UK.

We’ve held CEO Sleepout events in salubrious venues such as Wembley Stadium, The Oval, Lord’s Cricket Ground, St James’ Park, The Alnwick Garden, and Old Trafford. We’re looking forward to bringing CEO Sleepout to Stadium MK for the first time!

It’s a wonderful thing for individuals to work hard and to enjoy your success. To thrive and to prosper. We encourage business leaders to take the lead when it comes to the wellbeing of their communities. Make a stand against inequality - and more than that - demonstrably do something positive about it.

So with that, comes a massive opportunity for business owners and business leaders to play an active role. Not to operate as an entity separate from society but to weave yourself into the fabric of Milton Keynes as a whole, so that your prosperity reaches further and benefits more than the people you do business with. Mobility flows in two directions, with those who’ve been successful reaching down to give someone a hand up.

Responsible, compassionate leadership is a vital ingredient in the health, wealth and prosperity of the whole of the area in which we do business.

Homelessness is a complex issue, and has been on the rise in the UK since 2010. It’s not just the person you may see on the street. It’s the mother, who can no longer live under the same roof as her violent partner. It’s the family, who’s lease expires and can’t afford private rental. Or the returned veteran who struggles to cope. And there are many more reasons. Often a life event such as a relationship breakdown can lead to homelessness within a short space of time. The charities we support need our support to continue their great work helping those in need.

We can promise that the event will be enlightening, inspiring, and an opportunity to meet like-minded business people. But the event really is all about the fundraising. Last year, CEO Sleepout Newcastle proved to be the most generous city outside of London, with a phenomenal fundraising achievement of £120,000. With 35 people already signed up and fundraising, it’s possible that the very first CEO Sleepout Milton Keynes could be a monstrous success.

Let’s look towards a fairer, more compassionate Milton-Keynes, where business leads from the front. Where our goal is to use our influence to reach into the corners of our communities to create a fairer, more prosperous society.

Info on the partners:

John Cove, Chair of MK Dons Sport and Education Trust said:

“We know that sport, and football in particular, can inspire everyone, we also have a responsibility to use this inspiration as a catalyst to people making healthy and active lifestyle choices. So, whilst our programmes are fun and innovative, they are focused on delivering clear health messages and improving educational attainment. By understanding the needs of our community, we have delivered projects that have improved literacy, numeracy and ICT levels; increased confidence, self-esteem and communication skills; and broken down cultural and social barriers. The money raised by this event will help support the continuation of this work particularly those at risk of homelessness.”

Simon Green, YMCA MK CEO said:

Milton Keynes has been identified as the youth homelessness capital of the UK and YMCA MK are approached by over 1,000 young people every year, needing somewhere to live. It is an exciting time for YMCA MK as we re-develop our accommodation, building 199 rooms, as well as hosting a range of commercial and social enterprise activities, designed to support homeless young people in to employment. We are seeking to develop stronger links with the business community to develop further employment opportunities for our young people. The CEO Sleepout event will provide funds to help maintain the availability of this support for our residents, as well as a unique networking opportunity for us to help young people belong, contribute and thrive.

Since the charity was founded in 2013, CEO Sleepout events have been held at venues across the country, including at Wembley Stadium, St James’ Park Newcastle, Old Trafford cricket ground, The Alnwick Garden and Lord’s Cricket Ground. Its events have raised more than £2million to date.

CEO Sleepout’s Chief Executive, Bianca Robinson, said: “Although it’s only for one night, and doesn’t come close to what homeless people experience night after night, CEO Sleepout is intended to raise awareness and lots of money to fight homelessness locally and nationally, but also to remind all of us in business, about our social responsibility.

“We are very grateful for the many business people who have taken part in our fundraising events across the country and want to challenge the Milton Keynes business community to show their generosity and get involved.

“We’re inviting CEOs, senior level staff and their teams from across Milton Keynes to take part in what is sure to be a memorable and rewarding night.”

A number of Milton Keynes business leaders have already signed up to take part, including Jo Carter of Concept Personnel - who has been instrumental in bringing the event to Milton Keynes, the new Mayor Sam Crooks, John Cove, the Chair of MK Dons SET at Stadium MK and business leaders from across all industries.
