A relaxing winter retreat

With the transition into winter and a very busy work schedule, a relaxing spa day is just what the doctor ordered! The team at Kettering Park Hotel & Spa kindly invited myself and my mum for a spa day to try out their “Winter Retreat” package which included use of their facilities, a 25 minute treatment each and a 2 course lunch.

As you walk into the spa area of the hotel, you walk through glass doors to the spa lounge with comfy sofas and armchairs; we were greeted by a lady named Claire who looked after us for the day. We started the morning with a cup of coffee and filled out our beauty disclaimer forms, in addition to choosing what we wanted for our 2 course lunch. Claire then showed us to the changing rooms and gave us our towels, slippers and very snug dressing gowns!

As we’re both early birds and into our fitness, we started the day earlier than originally planned so that we could try out the fitness area. The gym was perfect for us; it had a good mix of cardio and weight machines, as well as some free weights. I often find hotel gyms to be quite limited in equipment; Kettering Park is far from this. All of the equipment is modern and kept very clean.

After using the gym, we started our relaxation with use of the pool and spa facilities, starting with the steam room followed by a swim and then a chill in the jacuzzi. Kettering Park Hotel & Spa’s facilities definitely stand out to others within the county; it’s nice and spacious and not too over crowded which is exactly what you need when you want a day of pure relaxation.

By 10:30am it was time for our treatments and we were escorted to our rooms by the two lovely beauty therapists, Diana and Lauren. As I do a lot of weight training, my back is often very tense and full of knots so I opted for a back massage with Lauren whilst my mum chose to have a facial with Diana.

There’s no better smell than a spa treatment room, and as well as smelling divine, the treatment rooms at Kettering Park have a comforting feel to them; they’re not too big, have dim lighting with aromatherapy candles and relaxing music and, like the gym, were kept very clean. My massage was perfect; I chose a detoxifying oil which tingles a little at first but went perfectly with what I needed. As expected, my muscles were very tight so there were a few moments where I needed much harder pressure; by the end of the treatment my back and body felt completely relaxed.

My mum was very complimentary about her facial; it included a scalp massage which she said nearly made her drift off to sleep on several occasions! To finish, her therapist used one of the “Caudalie” tinted moisturisers which she purchased straight after as she loved how smooth and glowing it made her skin.

To complete the day, we had our 2 course lunch in the bar. I went for a Caesar salad to start and a mezze of smoked & cured meats with bread and slaw for my main course. For starter, my mum chose heritage tomatoes, basil pesto & Bocconcini mozzarella and for her main she had the superfood bento box consisting of grains, greens and hummus with yard crackers, crudites and roasted vegetables. All of the dishes were delicious and the mains were very filling!
