Finding innovative ways to improve staff wellbeing

This month Technical Foam Services, a Corby based foam manufacturer and converter, have been trialing a new approach to aid staff wellness within their business.

Technical Foam Services are creating a unique internal staff wellness programme meaning they can apply for a new ISO accreditation; #45001 Occupational health and safety.

ISO developed this standard to help organisations to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions, all over the world.

Statistics show that over 7,600 people die each day from work-related accidents or diseases (that’s over 2.78 million every year!) The burden of occupational injuries and diseases is significant, both for employers and the wider economy, resulting in losses from early retirements, staff absence and rising insurance premiums. As a result of this, ‘#45001 Occupational health and safety’ standard was developed by a committee of occupational health and safety experts.

As part of Technical Foam Services efforts to achieve this accreditation they invited Heather Goram from Doterra into their business. Doterra specialise in essential oils.

Heather visited Technical Foam Services earlier this month to educate the staff about the benefits of natural oils. The research behind natural oils is rapidly increasing and one or multiple application methods can be used for a wide range of emotional and physical wellness applications and alternative medication.

Using essential oils for health benefits has become popular because it allows the user to tailor the experience to their specific wants and needs, rather than settling for a generic solution. They can be used as an alternative method to pain relief, to soothe skin irritations, promote healthy digestion, support good oral health and create feelings of clear airways.

Emotional benefits of essential oils are created by a chemical reaction in the brain, eliciting emotions and internal responses. Our sense of smell can produce powerful, mental, physiological and emotional responses.

Heather presented to all the staff and Technical Foam Services arranged for every employee to have a tailored ‘gift set’ containing several oils they can take home and trial.

HR and Credit Controller at Technical Foam Services, Georgina Plowright said: “Heather and her presentation on natural oils were a breath of fresh air on a normal work day. She was knowledgeable and helpful on the Doterra products. All the staff enjoyed it, we’re keen to try the various oils, and decide which ones will benefit us.”
