Celebrating Silver “Investors in People” accreditation
Leading county practice GSSArchitecture recently celebrated the achievement of Silver level accreditation following the latest “Investors in People” assessment.
GSS first gained recognition in 1997, being one of the first architectural practices in the UK to be awarded this accolade. The practice has been re-assessed every three years to prove ongoing compliance with the standard. The detailed assessment involved individual interviews with staff, partners and senior managers as well as an online questionnaire that received 100% participation. This was well above the international Investors in People guideline indicating a high level of engagement.
GSS partner William Assheton explained, “The Investors in People standard helps to link people development and skills acquisition to the specific aims and objectives of a business. By assessing and improving the performance of employees, Investors in People provides a framework to help businesses manage change and enhance success.”
“The mantra that our people are our greatest asset is still very true,” said Will, “And we understand that companies recognised as Investors in People consistently outperform non-recognised competitors in terms of productivity and profitability. We also find that clients regard our Investors in People status as being a very important indicator that we run our business in the most effective and efficient way.”
The certification forms part of the practice’s Integrated Management System (IMS), which also includes Occupational Health and Safety Management System, and the recently achieved Cyber Essentials PLUS certification. In addition, the practice operates a Quality Management System and an Environmental Management System covering all aspects of business.
As recognised Investors in People, GSS are continuing to offer educational and training opportunities to all staff. A total of 9 members of staff are currently undertaking year-out placements, studying part-time to become fully qualified or on apprenticeship schemes or work experience, working within Architecture, Architectural Technology, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Graphics Design, ICT and Business Administration.
The practice recently congratulated Heather Murgatroyd for qualifying as a Chartered Architectural Technologist and becoming a Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (MCIAT), and Chris Loj in our Quantity Surveying Team who, supported by GSS, graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying from Leeds Beckett University.
