Keen golfers from the Northamptonshire business community gathered at Staverton Estate Golf Course on June 14th to take part in the first annual Golf Day hosted by local managed communications provider, dbfb. Over 60 business professionals representing 19 businesses from around the County took part. The day was in aid of the Northamptonshire Health Charity and it is hoped that fundraising will reach in excess of £7,000.
Northamptonshire Health Charity are using the money raised to refurbish the Northampton General Hospital Radiotherapy waiting area. Fundraising Manager for Northamptonshire Charitable Health Charity, Alison McCulloch, said “We are delighted that dbfb chose to donate every penny raised to our charity. Northampton General Hospital treats up to 100 local patients every single day in their radiotherapy centre. Therefore, creating a friendly and comfortable waiting room for sufferers and their family, is something we feel is incredibly important. Something as simple as a comfy seat and a free hot drink is something we aim to provide all patients, some of whom have to go through treatment everyday, for up to 37 days. We’re overwhelmed and incredibly thankful for the generosity of the dbfb golf day attendees and cannot wait to see the result of their donations.”
The 12 team strong golfing party refused to let the relentless rain stop their day on the course from being a day to remember; fuelled by refreshments donated by McManus Pub group. The day was hosted by World Trick Shot Champion Geoff Swain. Before the 12PM shotgun start, Geoff gave attendees a preview into his world famous ‘Trick Shot Show’, wowing the keen golfers with what he can do with his golfing equipment. Geoff explained “When I was asked to be a part of the dbfb golf day, told about the charity and what the money raised was being used for; it was a no brainer to get involved, as a local lad who grew up in Bedford.”
Golfing Legend Peter Alliss joined dbfb for the glamorous evening event. Known by many as ‘the voice of golf’ for his many years of golf commentating for the BBC and other worldwide channels. His after dinner speech was one to remember; filled with mischievous tales of his golfing history and his thoughts on golf today. Golf-mad attendees were in their element.
Just over 100 guests joined dbfb for the fun filled evening. A magician and swing singer provided entertainment. Whilst fundraising activities such as games and a sporting memorabilia auction packed out the remainder of the evening; reminding attendees why they were there- to raise as much money as possible for an integral, local charity.
Some of the incredibly generous auction prizes which were donated included an apartment for two weeks in the Costa Del Sol, a Warner Edwards Gin Hamper and a round of golf with World Trick Shot Champion himself, Geoff Swain.
Managing Director of dbfb, Simon Pickering said: “Thank you to all businesses and individuals who supported and attended the event. The day was an incredible success for an incredibly worthwhile cause. I want to say a big thank you to our Charity and Events Executive Claire Irving, for putting her heart and soul into making the event what it was. We look forward to hosting other successful charity events in coming years.”
