HR firm raises £1,745 for charity by conquering mud challenge

Staff at a Kettering human resources company waded through a series of mud challenges and obstacles to raise a fantastic £1,745 for a leading children’s mental health charity, which was 174% of their initial target of £1,000.

The course included a range of obstacles such as hurdles, timber walls, cargo nets, A-frames, rope climbs, water slides, quarter pipes and mud pits. Nine team members from HR Solutions completed the gruelling 6K Uventure Run at Cranford Hall on Saturday 30th September in aid of YoungMinds, which provides a range of services to improve the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.

The day started with the team gathering for a nervous warm up after seeing the remains of some of the other participants of earlier sessions barely making it to the finish line in one piece. After the energetic warm up half the team were already worn out, but managed to conjure up the energy to continue with the challenge with a bit of support from the rest of the team. The challenge was chosen to help raise awareness of mental health, but raised more than just awareness through the sum of money raised by the company; a few eyebrows were raised too after several of the gruelling obstacles finally got the better of a few of the team members leggings, leaving bare bums on show.

The HR Solutions team, which supplies outsourced HR services to more than 300 UK and international businesses, consisted of CEO Greg Guilford,

Toni Guilford, Kirsti McGhee, Karen Lovell, Alex Butt, Emma Wood, Jessica Hallett, Sheena Harris and Juliet Coates. Greg said: “Every year we choose up to three charities to support by participating in fundraising activities, and it was fantastic that so many of us took part in the 6K Uventure Run. It was great fun – and not to mention messy! We’re really proud to raise so much money for a worthwhile cause, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated so far.

We chose YoungMinds because of the support they gave to one of our staff members in relation to a dearly loved family member, and we wanted to show our gratitude for the great work they do in supporting young people and their parents through extremely difficult times.” YoungMinds have written to the company to thank the team at HR Solutions for taking part in the challenge, as well as exceeding their target by such a margin.

Greg is thankful for all that donated to the cause and would like to personally thank everyone that donated which included clients and suppliers of HR Solutions, as well as friends and family of the team at HR Solutions.
