Celebrating a quarter of a century

June saw estate and letting agency Jackson Grundy celebrate the 25 year anniversary of opening its first branch in Duston. Staff, past and present, and other local companies and connections came together in the grounds of Courteenhall Estate to mark the occasion.

Taking inspiration from the local sports teams, the company established its now recognisable burgundy and yellow branding. These colours, along with the company’s unique oval shaped sign boards have since become ubiquitous across the county. By the end of the nineties, the company had four more branches – including one in Northampton town centre and another in Daventry.

Initially Jackson Grundy focused on property sales but has since expanded to offer lettings and financial services. It also opened The Village Agency in 2000, which specialises in selling luxury properties with a market value of more than £400,000.

In the last 25 years, the team has grown from two founding partners to over 60 members of staff and a network of 12 sales and lettings agencies across Northamptonshire.

Each of the sites – which are located in Duston, Northampton town centre, Moulton, Daventry, Abington, Kingsthorpe, Weston Favell, Kingsley, Roade and Long Buckby – are run by experienced managers, all experts in the local area.

Nick Rees, Director at Jackson Grundy, said: “We are always looking to innovate where it brings benefits to our customers and our business, yet the ‘traditional’ local branch presence is a true and tested model in our opinion. Our marketing offering is multi-channel and powerful, however we are convinced that much of the success we achieve for our customers is based on our wide network across the county, and the local knowledge and expertise this affords us. It means we are able to provide accurate valuations, skilled negotiations and an after sales process built on understanding the nuances of the local property market and conveyancing practices”.

David Jackson, Founder and Managing Director at Jackson Grundy, further explains the longevity of the company, and how it has been able to sell in excess of 35,000 properties since its inception: “We are so proud of the business we have created. Much of our success comes down to recruiting the right people and opening the right branches in the right locations at the right time.

“Each branch has a certain amount of autonomy to use the systems that work for them and train their staff in a way that provides the right mix of on the job learning with structured development. Over time, we have learned that what works for one location might not necessarily work for another as markets can vary so much.

Nick, who has been at Jackson Grundy for 20 years himself, also believes that moving with the times and not being complacent is incredibly important.

“We were the first estate agency to create floorplans and one of the first to embrace social media. We are even listed in the Zoopla Property Power list, which recognises top social media influencers within the property industry. We constantly strive to provide wider exposure and therefore further value to our customers. Some of the ‘online only’ agents are beginning to learn that it is not enough to merely list a property on Rightmove and hope for the best.”

Customer feedback is also something Jackson Grundy feels passionate about. The company has won a Gold Award from independent customer feedback platform Feefo for the last two consecutive years. Last month, the company passed the 500 reviews milestone with a combined rating of 4.8 stars out of 5.0.

“We get a real sense of satisfaction seeing the feedback come in from our customers, said David Jackson. In my opinion, our business is just the right size in that we are large enough to provide multiple offices but small enough to offer that personal touch and have that in-depth knowledge of the markets and locations we operate in.

“Generalising, estate agents don’t have the best reputation, so to see us consistently being rated as offering a five-star service to our customers really means a lot. It shows that we are delivering an optimum customer experience to our clients.”

The people of Northamptonshire have always been important to Jackson Grundy and the company does a lot in terms of supporting local charities, sports clubs and other organisations. It currently sponsors Northampton Town Football Club – a relationship that started in 2006 – as well as smaller grass roots football teams, cricket teams, rugby clubs, bowls associations, youth projects, school buses, festivals and rallies, and many more local groups and events. Over the last ten years, Jackson Grundy also has fundraised more than £50,000 for local groups, charities and sports teams.

“We will always support our local community proudly,” said David. “As we have grown over the last 25 years, we have stayed true to our traditional values. Whilst we may be at the forefront of marketing and technology and moved with the times in those areas, we have – and will always be – entirely customer focused.

“We would like to thank all our customers – past, present and future - as well as all the fantastic local companies we have had the pleasure to work with over the past 25 years.”
