In November 2018, Metro Bank, the revolution in British banking, celebrated the opening of its 62nd store in Northampton. I’m so proud that our store has since become a hub for the local community, with local residents and businesses giving us such a warm welcome.
At Metro Bank, our stores act as hubs for the local community. Like all of our stores, in Northampton we host dozens of business networking events throughout the year and deliver a free financial education programme, Money Zone for schools and youth groups. Last year in 2018, the bank hosted 3,500 community and charity events stores as well as taking over 41,000 school children through the financial education programme.
Money Zone, is a Key Stage two curriculum-relevant programme that teaches the basic principles of money, saving and banking, using fun lesson plans. We’ve seen local schools, Scout and Brownie groups and youth clubs go through the programme with a smile on their faces. The programme has four sessions, which concludes with a store visit, allowing the children to see a working bank in action.
Financial education and young people are so important to us, at Metro Bank, we want everyone to understand the importance of money. All of our stores have a Magic Money Machine, a free-to-use coin counting machine. For under 15s we also offer the Magic Money 5 for 5 club, where Young Savers can empty the contents of their money box into the Magic Money Machine each month and receive a special prize. Plus there’s a £5 bonus after five monthly visits.
We also host in-store family events throughout the year, where children can complete crafts and meet the bank’s mascot Metro Man.
Our last event ‘Back to School' was on Sunday 25 August 2019, where kids were able to create their very own book mark ready for their first day back at school, and Metro Man was kitted out in his new school uniform, complete with backpack.
Our community work doesn’t stop there, for the adults we also offer our free Bank@Work service for local businesses, where we bring our Metro Bank colleagues into the workplace offering a ‘pop up’ service to help employees with all their banking needs – without even having to leave the office. Metro Bank comes top in the Competition and Markets Authority (‘CMA’) customer service results for retail current accounts and no.2 for business current accounts, demonstrating our absolute focus on delivering the very best customer experience to create FANS. I’m the Area Director for Northampton, and I’m here to help the community get the most from Metro Bank. Our stores are open 7 days a week (8am-8pm Monday to Friday, 8am-6pm Saturday, 11am-5pm Sunday and bank holidays), 362 days of the year.
