How will you know if you can afford to retire?
We often find that when clients come to see us about their pensions, they have very little or no pension knowledge. The government provide a free guidance service via the Citizens Advice Bureau called ‘Pensionwise’ for the over 50’s but many people either do not know about it or do not want to wait for an appointment.
At The Pension House we offer a one hour free consultation when the meeting is held here at the Barn in Nobottle, but we often find that time is taken up explaining the basic pension options at retirement and the free hour is used educating clients about pension benefits rather than spending the time more usefully discussing their personal aims and objectives. This means it takes more time and this adds to the cost of advice.
To address the great lack of pension knowledge we are holding a series of ‘Pre-Retirement Education Classes’. These are aimed at those over the age of 45 who are considering their retirement future and want to improve their general knowledge about Pensions so they are better equipped for retirement.
The first session is to be held at the Barn in Nobottle on a Saturday morning which we hope will give people the opportunity to attend without having to take time off work. The session will explain the different types of pension schemes; the options in retirement and how pension income can be drawn and the taxation. We will explain what would happens to a pension if someone was to die and what to watch out for. We will also provide a brief resume of the state pension scheme and the recent changes. After the session the attendees will have a much wider knowledge of pension benefits and will be better equipped to understand their own pension assets and how they might be used in retirement.
The Class is free and will be informal with tea/coffee on arrival at 10.00 am, commencing the class at 10.30 am. The session will last for 1 hour and provide for 30 mins of questions at the end finishing at 12 noon.
We only have space for 30 attendees so please do RSVP to reserve your place. If the session is well received, we will consider repeating the session again later in the year.
We hope to welcome you to the Barn on Saturday 26th January.
