Roofing firm hits heady heights
A roofing company in Corby has moved to larger premises after growing exponentially in just six years.
Premier Roofing Systems Limited was established in 2011 by Managing Director Ryan Monaghan. Ryan left school at 15 and started work as a labourer for a roofing company before eventually setting up his own company. He says: “I have been in this industry for more than 20 years now - roofing is all I have ever known.”
When Ryan started the company, he had a vision to provide a first-class service and earn a reputation for being one of the UK's premier commercial and industrial roofing refurbishment specialists. He set about building a small business that used additional contractors when required to carry out contracts. This grew enough to warrant taking on a small unit at The Grove in Corby.
Now the company boasts 25 staff members and has just moved into a new facility at the town’s Earlstrees Industrial Estate.
Ryan said: “The new building is just fantastic. It stretches over two floors, houses five offices, a kitchen area and a big board room which enables us to carry out training on site over the weekend.
“We’re also well-located as we sit on an industrial estate with other businesses – some of them clients – and, thanks to good road links to the A14, M1, and M6, we can get to most of the country in two to three hours.”
Kristie Monaghan, Ryan’s wife, joined the business three years ago to manage the office-based business functions such as HR, finance and marketing and now has two support staff to help her.
“We have been working on one job for three years now on a site in Wales, replacing, maintaining and refurbishing their roofs.”
She said: “The growth of the business is completely down to Ryan. He learned the trade from an early age and has built up good relationships with clients and suppliers. Many of our clients come back to us time and again because they trust Ryan and Premier Roofing Systems and know that we have the knowledge and skills to deliver a good quality service.
“Even now, those values that meant so much to Ryan in the beginning, such as honesty, transparency and providing quality advice with no hidden costs, are still a massive part of our business.”
These clients range from schools, hospitals and other public sector contracts to large private sector projects for banks and global organisations.
“Our work is extremely varied,” says Ryan. “We work on projects of all sizes from repairs to complete refurbishments. One day we can be repairing a church roof, the next completely replacing a school’s flat roof. We can also clean and maintain guttering too.
“We have been working on a project in Wales for 3 years now, replacing, maintaining and refurbishing their roofs on a large industrial site".
Schools and the local community mean a lot to Ryan and the rest of the Premier Roofing Systems team and they are always thinking of innovative ways to support.
In December last year, the company held a competition that saw schools in the county design a corporate Christmas card that brought together the themes of Christmas and the roofing industry. The winning school won a grand prize of £1,000 and the two runner ups received £100. Each school that participated was offered a free roof survey in 2018.
Kristie says: "We had great fun judging the entries and it really helped raise the business profile in the local community". The schools enjoyed the experience and some of them have taken us up on the complimentary roof survey, which means a lot to us as we really do want to help schools as much as we can. Their roofs are large, sometimes old, and budgets are tight for maintenance. We want to work with schools to ensure they are safe places for our children to go to each day.”
So what is next for Premier Roofing Systems?
“We have just launched our brand new website - www.premierroofingsystems.com – which is already performing well for us so we hope that will become a sales tool and generate more growth in the business during 2018 and beyond,” said Ryan.
"We are also starting a strategic plan to target locations we already have a presence, such as Northampton, Milton Keynes, Birmingham and Coventry to work more closely with quantity surveyors and facilities managers within these areas whilst offering solutuions to help maintain, replace and install systems keeping in mind quality, energy efficiency and cost efficiency."
