Since Rushden Lakes launched in 2017, the unique shopping and retail destination has proven popular with the local community as well as attracting thousands of new visitors to the region. Owned and operated by The Crown Estate, 2019 is set to be yet another exciting year as the park continues to grow, with footfall +35% YoY and exciting new brands joining the line-up.
Set beside 200 acres of SSSI nature reserve – operated in partnership with The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire – and adjacent to stunning lakes, Rushden Lakes boasts great shopping and dining with a broad range of outdoor activities, including nature trails to explore and canoeing and cycling.
Later this summer, the park will expand combining even more reasons to explore as the West Terrace and Garden Square open.
The West Terrace, a 154,000 sq. ft. leisure and dining extension, will be home to a 14 screen Cineworld complex, and a number of exciting leisure brands, including; Rock Up, Flip Out, Paradise Golf, Heavenly Desserts, and Starbucks. Nando’s and Five Guys are already open on the outdoor restaurant terrace, with Play 360 recently joining in a 20,000 sq. ft. unit situated inside the West Terrace atrium.
Garden Square is a boutique retail extension based around a contemporary landscaped square, linking the West Terrace with the existing South Terrace. The 17,500 sq ft extension will contain 10 retail units ranging from 1,000 sq ft to 5,000 sq ft.
Together, these new developments will bring over 25 new brands to the park, and, once fully open, the extensions will nearly double the total size of Rushden Lakes to more than 450,000 sq. ft.
As part of The Crown Estate’s commitment to supporting and working within the community, Rushden Lakes also hosted two jobs and skills fairs last year, organised as part of the Recruit Rushden initiative. More than 300 job seekers attended the last fair in September, meeting employers and training providers. Recruit Rushden Lakes has placed 135 people into new employment opportunities, helping to recruit a talented local workforce.
The success of Rushden Lakes to date can be attributed not only to the fantastic retail and restaurant offering available to shoppers, but the range of outdoor activities they can get involved in. The completion of both the West Terrace and Garden Square this summer signals the investment The Crown Estate has put into this £180 million destination to create a brilliant place for people to shop, eat and explore the outdoors.
