‘Talent & Resourcing’ - new service line is an expanding Haines Watts offering

Business Advisors Haines Watts have rapidly grown their service offerings within the South East Midlands region over the last year and are delighted to add 'another string to the bow' in Quarter 1 with a Talent & Resourcing function.

How did Haines Watts develop the idea of introducing a Talent & Resourcing service line to the portfolio?

Rob de Main, Head of Talent & Resourcing: After a number of years partnering with HW Human Resources, our relationship continued to grow. In late 2017 we decided to merge efforts and launch a dedicated service line in the New Year to sit alongside HW Human Resources. Moving our business under the HW umbrella was an exciting prospect, given the great impression they’d left on myself and my team as a client.

What does the team structure look like?

Karen Dowse, Resourcing Executive: Well, I'm one of the Resourcing Executive's, so it’s my job to look after the lifecycle of the roles from advertising to placement. Every day’s different and I get to work with amazing talent, both internally and externally with our clients.

Rob: I have the enviable job of overseeing the Talent & Resourcing function within Haines Watts - The team has over 50 years recruitment and HR experience. We’re both passionate about what we do and the candidate and client experience and journey.

If the service line continues to grow at the current speed, we can see the team increasing significantly in the next 6 months.

What makes Haines Watts Talent & Resourcing different?

Rob: As I mentioned before, our flexible approach and multiple service offering makes us the ‘rock stars’ of T&R. Being agile in a candidate driven market, enables us to attract and retain the best talent in both our clients and own business.

Karen: Our talent’s finding yours! We want to help business owners reach their destination with speed and certainty through securing employment of great talent in their business. Our ethos is to be remembered positively and not deemed to be just another typical recruitment agency. We get to make those calls with successful feedback but also, have to deliver disappointing news that a candidate hasn't been successful. We don't believe in a blanket approach to our delivery - we make it personal - an extension of the client's reputation if you like.

Rob: It's great to be driving the market with innovative resourcing. Some businesses may have in-house HR or carry out their own recruitment - We can offer something for every stage of the process.

In addition to a full Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) model, we’re able to offer recruitment advertising packages, research and selection assignments and guidance on developing your employer branding. All of which helps make your firm more attractive, during the recruitment process.

What are your main challenges?

Karen: With UK unemployment at the lowest it’s been for a while, it won’t be a surprise to learn that today's labour market’s become candidate driven. We’ve learnt from our clients, who continue to dabble with 'in-house' recruitment that the sheer number of candidates applying directly for their vacancies, has significantly reduced over the last 18 months. Businesses are having to take an ‘out of the box’ approach to attract both active and passive candidates. Plus, the market’s fierce with competitors all offering 'a dynamic place to work', whilst also managing their time and resources to provide an exceptional candidate experience.

Rob: Karen’s right, it’s a ‘dog eat dog’ world out there and with the changes ahead for the UK during Brexit, we can only work to future-proof our clients. Our job’s to proactively ensure we put compliance and best practice at the forefront of everything we do.

What's next?

Rob: We’re now getting our name out there and we’re grateful for the opportunity to use our internal network to promote the new service line to existing customers. We think big! There’s no boundaries and we're excited to get our foundations embedded and the ‘show on the road’. Starting with a variety of events over the next few months, including "Making the most of the Apprentice Levy."

Karen: It’s such an exciting venture. We can literally take this business model and be adaptable to our client's needs. I’m not aware of any other business that can do that.
