The Olde Victoria, Restaurant Review
The Olde Victoria is a traditional pub located in Burton Latimer, offering traditional pub grub at a reasonable price. It has a tastefully newly refurbished bar and restaurant area which is bright and welcoming. Parking is convenient as there is a free public car park opposite. The pub also has a beer garden with seating and ample space for children to play. Their website allows you to email them if you want to discuss an event or celebration or you can make a reservation by phone.
According to the Olde Victoria, the finest local ingredients are used where possible with cuts of meat from specialist butchers and other artisan suppliers. The kitchen offers an a la carte and Sunday lunch. They also offer traditional ales on tap and premium craft gins in their well stocked bar. My husband and I visited The Olde Victoria with our two grandsons on a Sunday for lunch which is served between 12.00 and 17.00. We booked our table by phone for 16.00 which was the last seating for Sunday Lunch.
On our arrival we were greeted by a very friendly member of the team who checked if our table was ready and took our drinks order. Soon after were shown to our table in the restaurant area by a very pleasant gentleman who gave us our menus. The menu offers a choice of three courses each course has four choices f at a fixed priced, with children eating half price. Although the restaurant was not too busy and there were some tables still available, there were two large parties just finishing and the atmosphere was informal which made us feel at ease.
The staff are very welcoming and I was impressed how they included the children. It is definitely value for money and child friendly
We chose from the Sunday Lunch Menu which is changed every week, it also provides very tasty sounding vegetarian options. I ordered the prawn cocktail for my starter and the children selected the pate. All the main courses are served with roast potatoes, parsnips and yorkshire puddings as well as vegetables. For our main course my husband and I ordered the roast beef as did one of the children, the other one selected the roast pork.
Our starters came soon after we ordered and were served by a cheerful waitress. The food looked appetizing and was simply presented. The children really enjoyed the Pate commenting on how nice it was several times, the Prawn Cocktail was very tasty as well. The waiting staff were attentive and cleared our table when finished ready for the main course.
The main course arrived and looked and smelt very appetizing. The vegetables were served in separate dishes so you could help yourself to what you wanted. The roast beef was lovely and tender, although I thought the potatoes could have been a little bit crispier. However, my husband thought the potatoes were fine, demonstrating everyone has their own personal tastes. The roast pork was very tasty, as was the extra crackling they provided, although it could have been a little warmer. It would have been nice to have some horseradish and apple sauce offered as an accompaniment to the meal. However, we all enjoyed our meal, especially the children who finished off all the vegetables. For dessert I ordered the apple crumble and custard and my husband and grandchildren chose the ice cream, which came in a variety of flavours. The apple crumble was delicious and the ice cream very tasty, the perfect end to a lovely Sunday Lunch.
The Olde Victoria is a traditional village pub serving well priced tasty food. The staff are very welcoming and I was impressed how they included the children. It is definitely value for money and child friendly.
